Racial Harmony

Happy Racial Harmony Day!

July 21 has been celebrated as racial Harmony Day in Singapore for many years. The event commemorates the 1964 Race Riots on this day when 22 people lost their lives, and hundreds were severely injured. Schools across the nation encourage children to dress in other culture's traditional costumes. Traditional delicacies feature of the celebrations and traditional games are played--what an excellent example for all of us. I believe like much in life, our children are often great examples for their parents on how to act. We recently said goodbye to my sister and her children, who stayed with us for the past two months. What exceptional children they are and great examples to my kids. This is a picture of my two youngest children, in the middle and at the far right, with their cousins on the ranch.

While I have read MLK’s I have a dream speech many times before but these words now have special meaning since adopting two black children. “I have a dream that my four children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.” I pray racial harmony day brings us one day closer to that reality.
